CVJ has been improving their sound lately and that is something I should not ignore. This time, they released a new budget earphone on the scene. The CVJ KE-S, it looks very simple, very cheap, I wonder if this would be a good buy for 2023.

- KE-S IEM
- Three pair of eartips

- Paperworks
BUILD QUALITY
The KE-S is made of good-quality resin. It has a variety of colors to choose, although CVJ provided me with the blue variant due to the unavailability of orange. The KE-S features a standard QDC type pin, for easy cable replacement. The cable is good and one you would typically find in a budget Chi-Fi IEM. It doesn't have any other gimmicks like tuning switches and the KE-S is pretty simple and basic.
SOUND
The KE-S has a V-shaped tuning. One which I did not find surprising since most IEMs in this budget range is condensed with a V-shaped signature.
BASS
The bass of the KE-S is elevated and provides a satisfying level of impact and texture. It maintains a tight and controlled presentation, avoiding any excessive emphasis.
MIDSThe mids of the KE-S exhibit a slight recessed quality. However, despite this characteristic, the vocals manage to maintain a balanced presence without sounding overly recessed. The upper mids, while not excessively shouty, can have moments of brightness, adding some liveliness to the upper frequencies.
TREBLE
The treble can be spicy at times. It has an elevated extension, though not that airy and smooth, it still carries a level of energy and presence. A hint of sibilance can be noticeable on certain tracks.
TECHNICALITIES
Soundstage: Typical of IEMs in the budget range, the soundstage of this IEM is average and lacks expansive and immersive quality. The presentation may come across as somewhat two-dimensional.
Imaging: Also average. Struggles on busy tracks but performs decently for its price.
CONCLUSION
- Decent V-shaped sound signature for the price
- Decent bass shelf
- Budget-friendly, best for casual listeners
- Decent build-quality for $10
Cons:
- Not the best in terms of technicalities
- A hint of sibilance in the treble
The CVJ KE-S doesn't have anything special going on, it doesn't have the same gimmicky features of the CVJ TXS (also one of their recent products). It appears to be a run-of-the-mill release from a company like CVJ and joins the ranks of numerous ultra-budget IEMs that offer similar quality and sound. The question, do you really need to buy this? Considering its simplicity, it still offers decent performance and build quality for its price compared to its pricier counterparts. If you're new to using in-ear monitors and you're looking for an affordable option, or if you simply want a reliable pair for regular use, this product is a great choice, especially considering its price of around $10. This is definitely a steal!
