Sen-Fi's 2023 IEM Tier List

Before the year ends I created this tier list for fun and wanted to categorize the IEMs I reviewed, auditioned, and owned. DISCLAIMER: Anything on this tier list is subjective. You can refer below to how I logically categorize some of the IEMs on this list This list is not the "one true tier list" or the "gospel". Geez, I'm not that much of an expert and what's good for you may not be good for others, vice versa. I'm basically doing this for fun, I currently have an issue on my right ear so I won't be doing some reviews for a while. Everything on the list is tried and tested, I won't include anything I haven't tested. I won't put description on every IEMs on the list unless I have to justify it. Just have fun reading my tier list, no need to be too serious. Sen-Fi 2023 Tier List GOD Tier  (not in my official Tier List. These are basically revered being in God Tier because of their paramount price, only a selected few can own it, and it ha...

BQEYZ x Angelears Winter Ultra : Hark The Herald Angel Sing!

We previously featured the original BQEYZ Winter on this blog, and it quickly became one of the most viewed earphones among our readers. Now, the Winter makes a triumphant return, this time in collaboration with Angelears. Introducing the BQEYZ x Angelears Winter Ultra!

DISCLAIMER:

  • As a non-professional reviewer, I aim to use simple terms that can be understood by both beginners and experts in the hobby.
  • Please keep in mind that the opinions expressed in this review are subjective and based on my personal experience with the unit. I encourage you to try the product yourself to form your own opinion.

PACKAGING

The packaging remains largely consistent with the original Winter, featuring a box with a few redesigns. Inside, you'll find six pairs of default BQEYZ eartips, along with an additional three pairs of silicone eartips that are different from the default ones. The package also includes a modular cable, a 3.5mm and 4.4mm jack, a carrying case, and a brush. Personally, I still find the included eartips uncomfortable to wear. While I haven't tested the three additional tips, my experience in this hobby has given me a good sense of which eartips work best for me. I used a Final E eartips instead.

BUILD QUALITY

The build quality of the Winter Ultra maintains the same with the OG, but now it comes with a striking royal blue color. The cables are an improvement from the original version, now featuring a modular design. I lowkey love how the modular cables don't stick out as modular cable, it has no hinges but it's very easy to disassemble. Eartips still sucks so I usually opt to my 3rd-party eartips.

SOUND

Credits to Practiphile

Comparing the sound of the original BQEYZ Winter with the new Winter Ultra, there isn't a significant departure. You can refer to my initial BQEYZ Winter review for more. The noticeable distinction I found is that the Winter Ultra has warmer and more intimate mids, with a reduced sparkle in the treble compared to the OG. The treble in the original Winter has more details, air, and presence, while the Ultra offers a softer, smoother touch in this frequency range. The smoothed treble affects the technical capabilities of the Winter Ultra, resulting in a slight dip in detail retrieval and a less crisp overall sound. The soundstage is notably smaller, but the imaging and layering remain largely consistent with the original.

TEST TRACKS

CONCLUSION

Pros:

  • Great bass response
  • Intimate and warm mids
  • Warmer tonality compared to the OG
  • Softer, less pronounced treble
  • Modular cable upgrade
Cons:
  • Lacks treble energy
  • Technicalities are average
  • Bass lacks tactile dynamics
  • Not much of an upgrade, more on adjustments
The BQEYZ Winter Ultra suits my tastes personally because of its warmer tonality compared to the OG. It sure had a downgrade in technical aspects but if you want a richer, fuller, sound, the Winter Ultra would be your best bet. If you have a Winter, there's no need to get the Winter Ultra and save your money somewhere else.
