Sen-Fi's 2023 IEM Tier List

Before the year ends I created this tier list for fun and wanted to categorize the IEMs I reviewed, auditioned, and owned. DISCLAIMER: Anything on this tier list is subjective. You can refer below to how I logically categorize some of the IEMs on this list This list is not the "one true tier list" or the "gospel". Geez, I'm not that much of an expert and what's good for you may not be good for others, vice versa. I'm basically doing this for fun, I currently have an issue on my right ear so I won't be doing some reviews for a while. Everything on the list is tried and tested, I won't include anything I haven't tested. I won't put description on every IEMs on the list unless I have to justify it. Just have fun reading my tier list, no need to be too serious. Sen-Fi 2023 Tier List GOD Tier  (not in my official Tier List. SIMGOT EW200: Affordable and Efficient

SIMGOT has garnered increasing recognition in recent months, and they show no signs of slowing down. Today, we introduce the SIMGOT EW200, a formidable contender in the sub-$50 price range. The EW200 is priced at a remarkably affordable $39.99!

PACKAGING

The unboxing experience is rather minimalist, with no elaborate extras or frills. Inside the box, you'll find the IEM, the cables, three pairs of silicone eartips, and an earphone pouch. That's essentially all there is to it.

BUILD QUALITY

The EW200 boasts a 10mm SCP dynamic driver encased in a sturdy metallic shell with a prominent 2-pin connector. Although the build is susceptible to potential scratches, the premium quality of the metallic casing not only justifies its price but also ensures the durability of this in-ear monitor. Regarding the cables, they are fairly average and offer decent value for their price, without any notable exceptional features.

SOUND

The EW200 boasts an astonishingly balanced sound signature, delivering exceptional dynamic capabilities, refined details, and captivating audio quality. Priced at just $39.99, it truly stands out as an outstanding value.

BASS

While the bass may not satisfy those seeking heavy and powerful bass, the sub-bass offers a full and well-controlled experience. The mid-bass provides a satisfying, non-bloated thump, which, while not overly strong, is good and decent enough to pass in terms of resolution.

MIDS

Although the mids are somewhat recessed, it doesn't detract from their strong performance with vocals. The midrange delivers a highly musical experience, characterized by a natural and engaging sound. Instruments sound incredibly lifelike, and the guitar strings are particularly satisfying. The upper-mids exhibit a fluid quality, signifying a non-fatiguing transition from the upper-mids to the treble range.

TREBLE

The treble provides delicate reproduction in the higher frequencies, delivering a delightful sense of openness and brilliance. The lower treble maintains a natural and well-defined quality. Notably, there's an absence of harshness and sibilance, which is truly wonderful. However, when it comes to overall details, they tend to be average and may not fully satisfy those seeking extremely detailed highs.

TECHNICALITIES

Like many budget IEMs, the EW200, while a strong contender, does have some limitations in terms of technical performance, particularly in the retrieval of micro-details. The soundstage is not the most expansive, but it strikes a balance, offering enough space to position elements properly without feeling overly tight or congested. This allows for a fairly decent imaging experience, with instruments separated effectively across the stage. In summary, it's a performance that neither stands out nor disappoints, but considering the price point, it meets expectations.

TEST TRACKS

CONCLUSION

Pros:

  • Strong thumpy bass
  • Musical midrange
  • Sweet-sounding treble
  • Decent build-quality
  • Decent price-to-performance ratio
  • Small and lightweight
Cons:
  • Scratch magnet
  • Barebone packaging, some decent eartips would be better
If I were to suggest an IEM that provides a versatile soundstage for a wide range of music genres in the $50 range, the SIMGOT EW200 fits the bill. It boasts a well-balanced sound signature and a robust build quality. While the included eartips could be improved, opting for third-party tips would enhance the experience. The technical aspects may not be exceptional, but considering the price, it's unfair to expect too much. Overall, the EW200 is real winner!
